  1. Chris,

I am thinking that we have taken a class together before? Perhaps it was EDUC 631? Please correct me if I am wrong. Either way, I am pleased to meet you and am looking forward to working with you for EDUC 633. It seems that we do have a good mixture of backgrounds within this class and I am hoping to learn from your experiences in youth ministry. However, I do not believe that you like studying!

I agree with your statements that learning occurs when students and teachers are engaged and that students will be most likely to learn material that is relevant to their lives and experiences. Students will become vested and engaged when they understand why they are being asked to learn (Horton, 2012). However, I most strongly agree with your statement that students need love. It is our responsibility to love them and lead them in a way that is pleasing to God (Schultz, 1998).

    God Bless,

    Jillian

  2. Hi Chris, it is great to meet you. I like your philosophy of learning. When students and teachers are engaged in the process of learning students can achieve amazing goals. I also agree that love is foundational to learning. Loving our students means that we will do what is best for them and take care to reach each one. The county I teach for has the motto of "Learning for all, whatever it takes". I can say that the love that I have for my students drives my desire to see them succeed, and I do whatever it takes to reach them. It is not always easy, but it is always awesome to see them succeed.

For the three statements, I am going to say that the studying comment was the false one. That is my best guess. I look forward to going through the next eight weeks and getting more of your perspectives on education.
    Blessings,
    Cecelia

  3. Chris, I thought I was going out on a limb in thinking your comment about liking studying is false. However, I see Cecelia beat me to that one. I still think it's the false statement.

I'm so glad we are in another Ed Tech class together! Congratulations on your 10th anniversary!

I agree that students and teachers need to be engaged in learning, and I agree that differentiation is important. I think knowing our students helps us determine the learning activities which will engage our students.

    Have a blessed week!!
