Wiki
Over the last couple weeks, I have had the chance to work with Michael Szapkiw and Warren Kelly for our wiki literature review project. The topic of eBooks (Ebooks, ebooks, e-books, electronic books) is what we agreed to review. For the Wiki Proposal, Michael put together an outline for us to work with for the rest of the project. Warren contributed a lot of information about the theoretical framework of eBooks. For the literature review, I contributed to the sections dealing with reading comprehension, the effects on reading comprehension ( positive and negative). I also shared some information about the benefits and challenges of using eBooks in education. I contributed some of the media elements in the wiki.
By doing this project in a group collaboration, the research that was done helped to broaden my knowledge about eBooks, reading comprehension, modality, cognitive load theory, and redundancy. We were able to put together the theme(s) that we wanted to cover and each of us was able to contribute our part to the project.
As I prepare for a career in education, I am learning that there is a lot more to educational technology than just using the technology in the classroom. This project has helped me learn more about using eBooks in the field of education. Also, working on this project has helped me in collaborating with other students. I prefer to work alone. However, given the length and depth of this project, I knew I would need the help of my peers. Working with Michael and Warren was a good experience, they are both very smart and were very helpful in bringing this project to completion.
