I am currently at a school that has a Technology Integration Plan. The school has a team of teachers, called a Tech Cadre team. These teachers meet together and have been meeting together for a long time in preparation of helping teachers with adopting/integrating technology into the classroom. This Tech Cadre team is also available to offer encouragement, training and assistance to any/all teachers who want/need help.
School budgets vary and due to the high costs of technology, many classrooms/students do not have an equal student to laptop/tablet ratio. Still, in some schools, even if that were possible, some teachers would not want that because they are not interested, prepared, and/or trained in using technology for instruction and learning.
However, as I mentioned earlier, the school where I am has a plan in place and that plan includes the adoption/integration of iPads for teachers and students to begin to use in the classroom. Nothing final yet, but the plan is in place. Time and further research will determine the pace of this plan.
Using technology in the classroom for the purpose of instruction and learning can be very beneficial to students. In fact, many of today's students are being raised in homes (and in a society) that uses technology on a daily basis. Educators have before them a great opportunity to help their students to use the technology that their students are already using in their everyday lives and to help prepare them for a future in a soociety that is full of technology.
