The ways that I interact with people online include:
e-mail, blogs, discussion boards, and social networks.
I have also participated in synchronous learning environments through Skype and Blackboard Collaborate/Elluminate Live.
Both environments can create opportunities for learning.
In asynchronous learning environments, you can participate at your own convenience, no one sees or hears you (unless you want to be seen or heard), and you have the opportunity to think about the information that has been presented to you, students are not constrained by time.
In synchronous learning environments, you can meet with anyone, from anywhere around the world (-wide-web).
Which learning environment do you prefer?

Reply from Jeff Wright,
ReplyDeleteChris,
I prefer asynchronous learning over synchronous learning. Frankly, if a face-to-face type contact needs to take place, then I prefer it be real-world, instead of virtual world. I say this though knowing that I have no real experience in the virtual world environment. I really think that these formats are better to cater to the personal preferences and tastes of the individual student. I can see that some students would enjoy the virtual experience that asynchronous learning offers. I am sure that my son would. However, while I enjoy certain technologies, that is just not my personal preference. Thanks for the blog.
Blessings,
JW
Jeff,
ReplyDeleteThe different learning environments do cater to the different learning styles/preferences of students.
My preference is the same as yours.
Thanks for your response!
